New Report: Los Angeles #2 in State for Solar Roofs

Environment California Research & Policy Center released a new report today cataloging the amount of solar power installed by cities across the state, as of the third quarter of 2011. The report identifies the hubs of the state’s thriving solar economy (detailed in the table below) and shows that Los Angeles ranks second in the state in terms of the number of solar installations on residential, commercial and government buildings, with just over 4,000 projects installed. Los Angles is also second in the state in terms of the total amount of solar electricity generated, measured in capacity, with 36 megawatts.

New Report: Solar Power is Booming in Sacramento

Environment California Research & Policy Center released a new report today comparing the number of rooftop solar power projects installed in cities throughout the state. The report identifies the hubs of the state’s thriving solar economy (detailed in the table below) and shows that Sacramento ranks 7th in the state in terms of the total amount of solar electricity generated, measured in capacity, with 16 megawatts. Sacramento ranks 10th in the state in terms of the number of solar installations on residential, commercial and government buildings, with just over 1,000 projects installed. Most impressive, Sacramento has experienced the greatest rate of solar growth of all major cities, tripling the total amount of solar power installed in the past two years alone.

San Diego leads state in solar power generation

San Diego generates more power from grid-connected solar panels on residential, commercial and government buildings than any other city in California, according to an analysis released Tuesday by the Environment California Research & Policy Center.

"In the past two years alone, Los Angeles has tripled the amount of solar power that it had installed in the previous 10 years combined," said Michelle Kinman, co-author of "California's Solar Cities 2012: Leaders in the Race Toward a Clean Energy Future," a report from the Environment California Research and Policy Center. But Kinman added that Los Angeles still has a lot of catching up to do.
