Important Tax Incentives for Wind and Solar Energy Extended

Statement of Environment America Washington DC Office Director Anna Aurilio

With all the money flying out of Washington DC today, Environment America is pleased to see a bright spot for clean energy  in an otherwise gloomy economic picture. Homegrown wind energy is responsible for fully one third of all new energy production to come online in the past year. By extending important tax incentives for wind, solar, energy efficiency and plug in hybrid vehicles, Congress is helping to keep the lights on for clean energy. These incentives are particularly important to California’s Million Solar Roofs program. It is unfortunate however, that Big Oil and its allies added incentives for liquid coal, tars sands, and oil shale which will increase global warming pollution and use enormous amounts of water in the arid West. Still, the clean energy incentives passed today will help put Americans to work at good jobs while addressing our pollution and global warming problems.
