Toxic-free future

With 85,000 chemicals in commercial use, it is no surprise that Californians are over-exposed to a vast array of hazardous ones. We want safer products, but we don’t even know which chemicals are toxic and which products, many of which we use every day, contain them.

Program

Save Yosemite

There are 185 active mining claims within 10 miles of Yosemite — close enough that cyanide and other toxic chemicals used in the mining process could contaminate the rivers, forests and meadows of the park, and harm the peregrine falcon, black bear and other wildlife that live there.

Program

Protect Our Parks

Our parks let us experience nature and preserve California’s history. They offer a place for wildlife to thrive, and contribute billions to local economies. Yet from Anderson Marsh to Palomar Mountain to Samuel P. Taylor, our state parks are closing.

Program

No More Nuclear Disasters

Japan’s Fukushima disaster is a wake-up call for Californians: Our use of nuclear power means we’re gambling with the environment and our health. With so many clean energy alternatives available, we don’t need nuclear power to provide renewable, carbon-free electricity.

Program

Keep Plastic Out of the Pacific

A toxic soup of trash called the Pacific Garbage Patch is swirling off our coast. Too much of the trash comes from single-use plastic bags, which choke, suffocate or kill millions of turtles, birds and other marine wildlife each year. Let’s convince the state Legislature to ban the bags and keep plastic litter out of our ocean.

Program

Global Warming Solutions

Global warming is real and it’s happening now. The good news is it can be solved with solutions like renewable energy, energy efficiency, and cleaner cars, along with a cap on carbon. By enacting smart policies and innovative solutions, we can dramatically cut pollution and be a leader for the rest of the country.

Program

Cleaner Cars, Cleaner Air

We can drastically cut global warming pollution and reduce smog, simply by switching to cleaner cars — including ones that release zero emissions. The technology exists, so we’re calling on our leaders to enact commonsense policies to help us make the transition.

Program

A Million Solar Roofs

Too much of our energy comes from dirty sources that harm our environment. But by tapping the power of the sun and wind, and using less energy in the first place through efficiency measures, we can repower our lives with clean energy that doesn’t pollute and never runs out.
