To date, over 250 current and recent mayors, city council members and county supervisors from Oakland and Fresno to San Fernando and Chula Vista, have signed on to endorse Gov. Jerry Brown’s vision to place 1.5 million zero emission vehicles on California’s roads by 2025. By accelerating the deployment of clean vehicles, we can clean up our air, reduce global warming pollution, improve public health, save Californians money at the pump and stimulate economic growth.
This morning in a 5-4 decision, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s first-ever national standards for mercury pollution from power plants. The standards would have applied to roughly 600 plants, cutting mercury pollution up to 90 percent and preventing an estimated 11,000 deaths each year.
Net energy metering has been instrumental in the growth of solar energy, particularly on homes and businesses. Net energy metering enables solar panel owners to earn fair compensation for benefits they provide to other users of the electricity grid, and makes “going solar” an affordable option for more people. A review of 11 recent analyses shows that individuals and businesses that decide to “go solar” generally deliver greater benefits to the grid and society than they receive through net metering.

Eighteen-wheelers, school and transit buses, and other large vehicles will be much more efficient and less polluting by the end of the next decade, according to a proposal issued today by the Obama administration.
