Building Better: How High-Efficiency Buildings Will Save Money and Reduce Global Warming

Released 3/31/2010 - Simple policies to improve the energy efficiency of our buildings will lead to significant savings. A two-part strategy of requiring new buildings to be more efficient and promoting weatherization of existing buildings will save money and energy while improving air quality. The report finds that California homeowners can save over $800 per year, while helping reduce the global warming pollution from buildings by 37 percent.

Protecting our parks, forests and wild places

  • Yosemite, Joshua Tree and Redwood supported: California’s national parks are getting much-needed relief. In 2007, after we publicly highlighted years of budget deficits and their effect, Congress increased national park funding by $191 million.
  • Parks remain open: All of our state parks remain open after we helped oppose Gov. Schwarzenegger’s move to close up to 220 of them in 2009. From beaches to poppy fields to redwood groves, California state parks embody our state’s history and natural beauty and help create a strong local economy.
