Close Shipping Loopholes
Every year, thousands of ships come in and out of our bays hauling
dangerous and hazardous materials. A loophole in current legislation
allows them to be transported with spotty protections. On Nov. 7, 2007,
the San Francisco Bay oil spill reminded us what can happen when we are
not using the strongest possible protections. We're calling for our state leaders to tack action and close shipping loopholes to protect our coast. Sign our petition below: Dear Legislators,
Every
year, thousands of ships come in and out of our bays hauling dangerous
and hazardous materials. A loophole in current legislation allows them
to be transported with spotty protections.
We urge you to take
action in 2008 to ensure that ships in our bays have the safest, most
modern equipment, and that the state has all the resources it needs to
respond to, and prevent, future emergencies.
Sincerely,
